Yard Care in Phoenix and Glendale AZ

Caring For Plants When Temperatures Cool Down

How are you managing your landscape when temperatures are decreasing after the Summer in Phoenix.   With the record head and extreme drought conditions over the past 2 summers it can be challenging to keep all your landscaping thriving.  Usually starting in October it begins to cool off and by November we are starting to see night time temperatures getting into the 50’s and below.  Here are things we recommend doing this time of year.

  1. Decrease water to all plant material, trees and grass areas (go to azlawns.com/watering)

  2. Add mulch to any planter beds that have mulch already, great time for annuals as well

  3. Remove diseased or dead branches or stressed plants completely that maybe stressed by the extreme heat

  4. Inspect for insects or disease issues should be addressed

  5. Light fertilization for some plants and trees going into the fall for plant health

  6. Evaluate plants that maybe dont do well in our desert climate and replace them with a desert adaptable variety (go to amwua.org/plants)

  7. Annual flowers and ornamental and perennial plants or even cactus or succulents.
