The Hopseed Bush in Phoenix makes a great hedge and comes in both green or purple colored leaves. The purple leaf shrub does better in partial shade and the green leaf shrub does better in full sun. They can be hedged into a long head and can grow as tall as 12 feet if you allow them, or you can keep them separated as individual shrubs. These are great for privacy or just locking with walls or fences.  They can handle the frost very well in the winter months and require a moderate amount of water in the spring and summer months for healthy growth.
