Tree girdling is when cables or wiring is used to stake up a tree. Girdling can harm your trees when the cables get left on trees too long and the tree outgrows the staking and actually starts to grow around the wire. This is very unhealthy and can prevent the tree from having a strong tree trunk when it gets much larger and more mature.
We recommend removing the stakes after a few years or once the tree trunk is larger in diameter than the tree stakes. Sometimes these cables are so deep in the trunk of the tree that they can’t be removed. Hopefully the wire can be freed up from the tree in order for the tree to live a long and healthy life.
